Jim Meehan
Hello! I'm Jim. I am a self-taught photographer from Pittsburgh, PA. I have been photographing landscapes and events since 2001. In that time, my love for travel, art, and the outdoors has grown considerably. If you’re new to my photography or have followed me for years, you’ve likely noticed that many of my works include vibrant colors—oftentimes colors that I have waited hours to capture at just the right moment.
Although, I do like traditional landscape photography, my "style" can be described as unconventional. I like to focus on scenes and landscapes that may never have been seen. I like strong contrast and bold colors in my images and will also incorporate shapes, lines, and patterns that may sometimes border on abstraction.
Another thing you may have noticed is that a significant portion of my photos come from outside of Pennsylvania. My love for photography has spurred several road trips across the United States which have given me countless memories. Some of my favorite places in the United States are White Sands National Monument in New Mexico, Zion National Park in Utah, and Medicine Bow National Forest in Wyoming.
When I'm not traveling, I like to visit local parks and neighborhoods around Pittsburgh to discover new photo spots. Several of my photos of western Pennsylvania have been featured in local newspapers, magazines, museums, and websites. My work has been curated into numerous juried art shows and has even won awards.
In the last decade, I have expanded my skill set to include engagement, wedding, pet, and family photos—shooting outdoors whenever possible to incorporate the landscape and the subjects into each frame.
